The weightlifting – whose first world championship was organized in London, 1891, which was included into the program of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 and whose international association was founded in 1905 – went through tremendous changes.

To some extent this can be understood because every sport branch has changed in terms of organization, form, competition system and training methods.

Changes in weightlifting, however, spectacularly transformed the entire sport branch, particularly that occurred during the last thirty years.

These changes were created partly by professionals, who are responsible for the administrative organization of the sport branch and also by professionals, who create the training programs, determine the proper workload, assist the athletes to reach their top form for the various competitions, work out technical methods and tactics for short and long term use, day by day, week by week.

The author of this book obtained public recognition as a weightlifter athlete, coach and manager respectively.

Being fluent in English and Spanish he coached beginner and elite weightlifters in several countries and guided his athletes in a good many competitions. For his peaceful, modest, humble character he was loved and still being loved from South-America to Japan , from Scandinavia to Africa .

Based on his coaching experiences he wrote this book. The primary motivation behind this book was the author’s desire to help the weightlifting sport, coaches and athletes worldwide, rather than personal ambition.

A number of professional weightlifting books have been published. Nevertheless, we believe that the current book from Tamás Fehér will be proved to be very useful because of the professional credit and good style of the author.

As the President of the International Weightlifting Federation I recommend this book for the education of weightlifters and for the weight trainings of athletes worldwide.

I wish the experts to use this textbook often and sincerely congratulate to its author.

Dr. Tamás Aján

President of the International Weightlifting Federation

Member of the International Olympic Committee
